Dreams. Many of us have them. But what are they? And how do they relate to our lives? In this article, I am going to dicuss on Dreams vs Reality.
There are three definations to "Dream". It is defined by the Merriam-Webster online dictionary as:
1) a series of thoughts, images, or emotions occurring during sleep 2) something notable for its beauty, excellence, or enjoyable quality 3) strongly desired goal or purpose
First, "Dream" as a series of thoughts, images, or emotions occurring during sleep. When someone dreams, either conciously or suc-conciously, they are, usually, the main character. Dreams, is like big, live television show where the "dreamer" is usually the main character. In dreams, we also get to choose our paths. Therefore, I feel that dreams actually help us to improve our decision making without much effect in reality. If we did not have dreams, our decision making skills will probably be very lousy and we would have made uncountable number of mistakes throughout the time we are awake. When we dream, we often dream about people we know or have seen before. Such dreams often help us to better relate to the person in reality. But, there is a down side to this too. Sometimes, you interact with the person in a really close way when in fact you are not that close. When such mistakes are made, it will make the two parties involved feel awkard and uncomfortable and thus, straining the relationship. Therefore, dreams which occur during sleep are important as they not only help us to relate to people better in reality but also help us to improve our decision making skills.
The second defination of dream is something notable for its beauty, excellence, or enjoyable quality. We may not notice this but dream here is probably used more as a figure of speech. When we talk about your "dream person", we talk about the good qualities of the person. Hence, this defination of dreams is used in reality as a figure of speech.
The last defination of dream is a strongly desired goal or purpose. Many of us have such dreams. We always set goals and purposes for ourselves. Without these dreams, we would never have gotten to the stage we are at now: We would just be left without a meaning in life. Therefore such dreams are important. Usually, people would advise to aim for higher goals and objectives. There are some advantages and disadvantages to this statement. The advantage is whenever you aim for something high, and you miss it a little, you will still get good results which would be pleasing. But, if you put too much stress on yourself to achieving these dreams, there would be some adverse effects. The dreamer who did not manage to achieve his/her dreams will be really dissapointed with hiself/herself. They would also not believe in the power of dreams anymore and thus resulting in a lack of understanding towards the meaning of life. So therefore, to prevent this from happening, we should try to be contented with what we have and just enjoy living in our dreams. The above statment is contreversial and therefore i shall not elaborate on it.
In conclusion, i would like to touch on Dream as a whole. Dreams are very important in life. Without dreams, we would not be where we are. We would definately lack meaning in life. There is a show i would like to recommend that really shows us what dreams are for and its importance and effects on us. It is also a very inspirational show to watch. This show is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (which, btw is also a broadway musical). I would, once again, like to end with an important idea from the show: dreams are of very good use when they are put into practical use.
